Gotta Love Our (America's) Consumer Society!
It really worries me that Americans are in fact twice as stupid as analysts had predicted...It's good that in these times of surging oil prices, rising food prices, and inflation stalking the world economy that American consumers are taking the money that their government - while running multi hundred billion trade and fiscal deficits - is giving them. I guess paying off that credit card, or investing in an American company is out of the question these days. The world is going to hell, better spend while you can...and while there is still something to buy. What are these people going to do when they are no longer being subsidized by the developing world's savings? If they have to trim 200 billion or more off their consumption of foreign goods each year? What about when they actually have to start paying off that credit card debt, or saving for something like...retirement? Maybe the current generation of ravenous consumers is really planning on living fast and dying young. Me, I'm stocking up on canned goods.

people don't need to save up for retirement, now that people can work until they're 75, they can go until they drop.
just one question: who's stupider, the consumer for demanding relief from high gas prices, or those of us who expect them to act otherwise?
