So today there are of course a flood of articles about Barack Obama finally clinching the Democratic nomination and I stumble across this gem from a BBC story (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7434740.stm):

Exotic mystery
I was recently in
The refrain I heard over and over again was that voters knew little about Barack Obama, apart from the fact that he had a wacky, inflammatory pastor.
For millions of Americans, who have not read his book, who do not read the New York Times and who do not follow politics obsessively on the cable TV networks, he is a blank canvas, which his opponents can paint on.

Who’s fault is that?! How about you DO read his book, some newspaper articles about him, or just google Barack Obama…If American’s can’t be bothered to do even a bit of independent thinking about their presidential candidates, maybe they shouldn’t be voting in the election. Maybe they shouldn’t be complaining about the state of anything.

It's Americans' God-given right to be ignorant. Thats why you need to shove democracy down their throat with ads attacking electoral opponents. This is the great culmination and achievement of our civilization, and i'll be damned if i sit here and let you mock what our (though not mine) ancestors died for: i.e. ipods and reality tv.
