Lust for Gold?

If only lust for gold was turning China neutral I might be less worried. This BBC article sums up what I’ve been saying about China and the 2008 Olympics for a long time now. Even if the PLA doesn’t end up shooting demonstrators in the street as I foresee, China will still win A LOT of medals, and it may be disconcerting to see it happen. I guess the question might become, will America – or any other country for that matter – resort to China’s training tactics in order to secure Olympic glory? China is certainly on the rise, and how we view their Olympic dominance may provide valuable insights into how we may view other kinds of Chinese progress.
