A Vindication of my Lifestyle

People seem to go on and on about being healthy, eating healthy, living longer and healthier lives. People I know have been telling me that if I keep eating the way I have been by my current age plus 5 or 10 years I’ll have to mend my ways. Well in the decade plus I’ve been hearing that I still haven’t had to mend my ways, and based on what the Economist tells me this week, I probably shouldn’t.

“As more cures are found for cancer, and sensible types give up smoking and bacon, more people will find that a slow decline is the meagre reward for their virtuous behaviour.”

So take that all you gym attending, vegetable eating, yoga doing hippies! I’m going to keep living my “unhealthy lifestyle” and die at 65, but at least I’ll still be able to remember what steak tastes like and have the cognitive functions to appreciate my time on earth.
