After the first bit of the debate, I got to thinking about McCain’s time off of the campaign trail while he headed back to Washington to deal with the financial crisis. Since he seemed half asleep at the beginning of the debate, maybe it was fortunate for him that he got a break to have a nap and cool his nerves in the lead up. Still, his staff need to give him his upper a bit earlier so it kicks in before the debate starts.
It will be interesting to see his form in the next debate, with less of a focus of foreign policy, and also perhaps without two restful days before hand. If he manages to find a reason to stop campaigning for the few days before the next debate worry. I'm not sure I want a president who needs time off before he enters into a stressful situation...and can only deal with one at a time. I hear being president can be hard if you try and do a good job.
