Canada One Stop Closer to Joining EU

The BBC has an article today about how Iceland may soon be applying to the EU. I guess the latest round of financial crises have really illustrated for them the perils of being a small open economy. Still, this is just what I have been waiting for. Iceland straddles the North American and European continental plates, and if Iceland which is half on North America is allowed in, then Canada should be allowed too.

From the article:

"The EU's door is open to any European country that respects the principles of liberty, democracy and human rights and can carry the obligations of EU membership," said Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, a spokeswoman for Mr Rehn's office.

So maybe even without Iceland they will let us in.
